The Brief

What the client was looking for

Ana and Dermot at Sugrue South Downs first approached Produce Packaging over two years ago, seeking a packaging partner who could help address a consistently high level of bottle breakages during transit. Their goal was to protect product integrity, reduce losses, and improve confidence in both domestic and international deliveries.

The brief called for a robust yet practical solution that could withstand handling across the supply chain, while remaining suitable for different bottle sizes and shipment quantities. Any solution also needed to be thoroughly tested to ensure consistent performance over longer-distance journeys.

The Solution

What did we provide?

Working closely with Sugrue South Downs, we developed a bespoke pulp insert and outer box system specifically designed to protect their wine bottles in transit. The custom insert was engineered to cradle each bottle securely, minimising movement and absorbing impact during handling and transportation.

Following extensive development and testing of our Pulp Pro-Tect range, the new packaging delivered a significant reduction in damage, ultimately achieving a 0% breakage rate. Building on the success of the original six-bottle format, we went on to design inserts for multiple quantities and bottle sizes. These solutions are now used for both UK and overseas shipments, consistently proving their effectiveness even on long-distance routes.
