Site Visit To Waddington Europe Arklow

We were delighted to visit our soft fruit punnet manufacturing partner, Waddington Europe along with our customer Angus Soft Fruit to their Arklow production site in January ...

Waddington Europe’s Head of Production, Derek Giles and the Area Managers were pleased to give Claire Mealing, Krzysztof Melerski, Kyle Murdoch, Denise Powell and Lee Cooper from Produce Packaging as well as Lucy Stephens and Radoslav Marinov from Angus Soft Fruits and Emma Wise and Sally Dempster, also from Waddington Europe, a full factory tour, right through from design and NPD, to tool manufacture, extrusion and thermoforming. We even got to see their innovative new bubble pad free MONOAIR™  soft fruit punnet being made and were able to review samples on the day.

Lee Cooper, Business Development Manager, Produce Packaging said “We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Arklow site, and were particularly impressed with how clean the factory was as well as the friendliness and knowledge of everyone we met. It was great to see all the stock being manufactured and we truly are excited for the season ahead”.

MONOAIR™

With MONOAIR™ cushion technology, soft-fruit containers no longer need extra bubble padding. Traditionally, punnet bases have required an additional layer of bubble padding attached with a glue adhesive to protect soft fruit from bruising and spoiling in transit. However, the padding must be removed from the container to be properly recycled. “The MONOAIR™ cushion is now integrated into the base of Waddington’s 100% recycled PET (rPET) punnets, eliminating the need for a separate bubble pad,” said Eduardo Gomes, Managing Director of Waddington Europe. “That conserves resources without compromising on the high standards of product protection and quality that our customers have come to expect from Waddington Europe. Having undergone successful trials, these are now approved by all UK retailers. Samples and orders can be made via Produce Packaging.
